Cape Cod Museum of Art offers a variety of unpaid internship opportunities for college students.  Most internships are available for the fall and winter terms as well as during the summer. 

CCMA’s mission is to collect, conserve, study, interpret and exhibit works by outstanding artists associated with Cape Cod and the Islands.  Through its programs, the museum seeks to preserve the artistic heritage of the area and to foster artistic and cultural growth within the individual and the community.

Museum operations internships:

Exhibitions Intern:
Assist the Executive Director and Exhibitions Curator with various aspects of creating an exhibition, including biographical research on artists, setting up files for upcoming exhibitions and organizing past exhibitions for archiving.

Registrar Intern:
Assist Registrar with inventory of the museum’s permanent collection, photographing works from the permanent collection, assess the condition of artwork on loan and organizing the permanent collection card catalog.

Art Auction Intern:
Assist the Events Coordinator in all aspects of planning and execution of the museum’s annual arts auction. This internship will expose an intern to a high energy, multi-faceted experience. Interns that apply should understand that the ability to multi-task and to demonstrate initiative are important. This position will provide a student interested in museum work and fundraising a wonderful experience working with an international event planner as well as nationally and internationally known artists.
          
Museum Shop Intern:
This internship will expose students to the many facets of running a small retail shop within a museum setting.  As part of the internship the student would work directly with the Museum Shop Manager to learn the principals of good customer service, cashiering, buying, pricing, merchandising and bookkeeping.  The internship will also give the student a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of a small regional art museum, an invaluable experience, especially for a student interested in pursuing a museum career.  This internship would be appropriate for students studying business administration, art and design, accounting or museum studies.

Education Internships:

Summer Art Camp Intern:
Assist the art teacher in the weekly summer art camp program for students ages 6-12. Interns should have Art Education or Elementary Education back ground. Internships could last 8 weeks or as few as 2 weeks. Art camp runs June 30 through August 22, 2008, 9:30 am - noon.

Clay Studio Intern: 
Assist Art teacher in week long clay workshops for students age 12-14. Intern should have Art Education back ground. Internships could last 8 weeks or as few as 2 weeks. Clay workshops run June 30 through August 22, 2008, 9:30 am - noon.

Museum Educators Intern:
Assist Museum Educators with VTS tours for students from Art Camp and the middle school clay program as well as any school tours that may visit the museum in the summer months. Internships could last 8 weeks or as few as 2 weeks. The children's summer art programs run June 30 through August 22, 2008, 9:30 am - noon.

Graduate Level Internships:

 

Archives Internship: 
Assist the Archivist with processing archival records of the first 25 years of the Cape Cod Museum of Art’s existence and data entry.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required: Enrollment in a graduate archival studies, public history, or information and library science program with a minimum of nine credit hours completed, or enrollment in a related graduate program combined with archival experience or training.

Required: Attention to detail; respect for privacy and confidentiality.

Preferred: Experience with archival processing; ability to lift archival boxes (50 lbs.).

 

Working Conditions:

·         Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible

·         Frequent bending, crouching, stooping

·         Normal office environment

Please note that all internships at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, are unpaid positions.
•  When applying for multiple internships: please send a separate cover letter and resume in one e-mail for each position.
•  Only one letter of recommendation is needed when applying for multiple internships.
•  You may include the cover letter and resume in the body of the e-mail, or in a Microsoft Word attachment.
